Re-Elect Chantelle Morvay to Nanaimo Ladysmith School Board

Strong schools build stronger communities.

  • Continue strengthening literacy, numeracy, wellness for students and staff and Reconciliation (This is in our strategic plan).
  • Ensure policies and practices create safe, welcoming spaces where everyone belongs.
  • Sustainable funding for accessible, inclusive learning, working and childcare environments.

Beyond my experience as a school trustee, I bring a broad understanding of education, community advocacy, governance, and organizational leadership.

Through my work with BCEdAccess and the ADHD Advocacy Society of BC, I have advocated for children, youth, and families at all levels of government, developed resources and supports for families, facilitated social programs and community events, province wide family engagement sessions, planned and delivered five well-attended BC education conferences and helped to create a 6 part film series on ADHD.

I also bring experience in building management through the strata property management sector, as well as a strong understanding of parent and community perspectives from serving on PACs in multiple school districts.

Having grown up in a small rural community, I understand the unique strengths and challenges of rural communities and bring a practical, collaborative approach to building relationships and advocating for strong public education.

My experience in governance has strengthened my understanding of how provincial systems, policies, procedures, budgets, facilities, and decision-making intersect with student outcomes and the safety and well-being of students and employees.

These past four years, I have been on various committee’s, working groups and boards that have not only widened my perspectives, but has also allowed me to share my unique skills and lived experience for the betterment of the education system and all those who work and learn within in, not just locally, but provincially:
  • Member of the Inclusion and Accessibility working group for the British Columbia School Trustee Association (BCSTA) whereby we created an important resource to support trustees in better understanding our roles and responsibilities when it comes to inclusive education, called Improving Student Outcomes: For Students with Disabilities and Diverse Abilities”.

  • BCSTA Representative on the Teacher Qualification Services Board.

  • Served 2 years on the School Boards Policy Committee

  • Served 3 years as Co-Chair on the Safe Schools Committee, which was later reshaped into an equity policy working group.

I want to see that work through, because when we identify barriers early and surround students with the right supports, we have an opportunity to change trajectories and prevent negative outcomes later in life.

You have my commitment to ensure we continue building relationships and trust with students, staff, families, Indigenous Partners, and community organizations to increase grad rates and deliver truly inclusive education for all.

Strong schools build stronger communities, and I want to keep doing that work.
